Yoga Poses & Their Benefits
Every pose is more than a shape—it’s a doorway inward.
In this section, we explore some of the foundational and advanced asanas you’ll encounter at Vira Yoga Studio. Each pose offers unique benefits, from building strength and flexibility to calming the mind and restoring balance.
Whether you're revisiting familiar postures or discovering new ones, let this be a guide to understanding how each pose supports your body, breath, and practice.
Move with purpose. Practice with awareness.
Hips Opening
These poses improve flexibility and mobility in the hips, pelvis, and lower back, supporting better posture and ease in movement. They can also help reduce lower back pain, support circulation, and bring a deep sense of emotional release and grounding.
Backbends
Backbends are energizing and
heart-opening poses that help counter
the effects of daily habits like sitting
and slouching.
These poses strengthen the spine, open
the chest and shoulders, and stimulate
the nervous system. Practicing backbends can uplift your mood, increase energy,
and cultivate courage—both physically
and emotionally.
Arm Balances
Arm balances are playful yet powerful poses that build both physical and mental strength.
These poses challenge balance, coordination, and core stability while cultivating focus, patience, and confidence. Practicing arm balances encourages you
to move beyond fear and discover strength through mindful effort and trust.
Inversions
Inversions invite us to shift perspective—literally and energetically.
By bringing the heart above the head,
these poses stimulate circulation, calm
the nervous system, and encourage focus and presence. Whether you're practicing Headstand, Shoulder stand, or Legs-Up-the-Wall, inversions help build strength, balance, and inner clarity.
Twists
Twisting poses gently rotate the spine, helping to create space, release tension,
and support the body’s natural detoxification process.
They massage the internal organs, aid digestion, and improve spinal mobility. Twists also encourage mindfulness
and presence, inviting you to move
from your center and return to balance.
